Asia 2009 – Day 0.5

Well, I’m off again. And, hopefully, that means blogging as best as I can while I travel. A shame I didn’t get to see everyone before I left, last minute packing and everyone being busy right before my flight never helps. Ah well, I’ll be back before I know it?

For starters, my current itinerary is:

Seoul – September 16th – September 22d
Jakarta – September 22nd – September 29th
Taipei – September 29th – October 13th
I may add Hong Kong or Bangkok during my two weeks in Taipei, just depends on prices and how I’m feelin’…

Well, not to complain, but when does ANYONE ever have an exquisite flight to anywhere? I suppose just the first and business classers, but…

The roommate Frank dropped me off at LAX with plenty of time to spare. Made a few stops to subdue the sore throat and slight coughing that attacked ever so timely when I woke up the day I travel out. Ricola and some Sudafed suppressed it slightly on the plane. Just hope they don’t quarantine me for something that’s probably just allergies with the changing of weather in LA.

At 10:15pm, the Tom Bradley International Terminal is already fairly packed. My cough drop actually cracked between my teeth at the sight of the crowds. And a bummer I had to check-in two bags instead of just the one and not take two carry-ons… Oh well, some minor rearranging of clothes to protect the cameras didn’t take long.

Nice nap at the gate. Although I hate it when people don’t realize they’re shaking the whole row of chairs when they’re bouncing their legs. Constantly. To the point where you want to get up and ask them to stop.

Window seat. Food pretty immediately. I’m elated that I saved that funky two-pronged doohickey that allows any headphone to jack into their outlet. Until I lose it under my seat and can’t turn around enough to search for it. Bah. I watch Night At The Museum 2 (what, I was a fan of the first one) and pass out pretty quickly. Must have been awhile cause when I woke there was only about 3 or 4 hours left in the flight. When I woke though, some incessant chirping was emanating from my seated neighbor’s pocket. You’d think an alarm would stop after, oh, 5 minutes of repeating, but… Yah. That didn’t happen. It slooooooowly disappeared into the sound of the plane but was there enough to not let me fall asleep again. Eventually, my neighbor woke and I informed him that something was making a noise from his pocket (but failed to mention that it had been doing that for at least 30 minutes (or what seemed like 30 minutes)). Breakfast is served. I watch Terminator Salvation but of course, we land with about 15 minutes left in the film. Damn.

And now I sit in the Taipei airport at 7:00am local time, ready to board for Incheon Airport in Seoul. More to come as always. Stay tuned…
