TR2N!!!!

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Finally. Prayers have been answered. While they did a “sequel” to Tron as a video game, the classic 80′s sci-fi movie is getting a treatment it truly deserves. TR2N or Tron 2.0 (like the video game was dubbed), looks like it’s slated for a 2011 release. Looks like Disney showed a three minute preview in October at a comic-con and it looks SICK. I mean, it WOULD be sick, if the damn bootleg videos were semi-viewable. (Trust me, I scoured the web for a better version, but that’s all there is for now…) But I think you kinda get the gist of things from it still… Fanboys… DROOL!!! Word is also that Daft Punk is going to be doing the soundtrack and John Lasseter, head of PIxar is doing the world of Tron in 3D CGI. And you gotta love that the original cast is planing on coming back, as proven by Jeff Bridges cameo in this teaser. YES!

I know some people think this movie is pretty shoddy but it still blows my mind with it’s amazing design. The story isn’t that deep but who cares, the idea is pre-Matrix and may be one of the first movies that incorporated video gaming and CGI into the storyline. Can’t wait to see more of this new incarnation. With the way the computer world is at the moment, how would one visualize it now as it was visualized in 1982?

mini micro machines for reeeeeeaaaaalz!

Nothing at all to do with Thanksgiving, but man, fun fun fun.  Yes, it’s a REAL demolition derby but shot with tilt-shift focus making everything look miniaturized.  Wait until the Mechazilla car comes out, too funny…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles anime style

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

I have no idea why or when the Japanese entertainment world decided to make this happen, but, well, they have. So off we go! They’re a bit creepy when they go all super-version.  Not really digging the cheesy masks.  And man, could you make it any MORE Japanese-y?  Combining to form one giant TMNT? Seriously? Really?  Fine…

MUTO a wall-painted animation by BLU from blu on Vimeo.
This video has been getting some buzz on the web. Crazy wall animation done over a 6 month period or so. Ridiculous. How they hell did they paint so high on the wall?!?!

let’s do this

I made fart. I mean art. This is my piece for the Lost 10 Year Anniversary art show I just participated in. Done pretty damn fast (three nights work?) with a black marker and some acrylic paint on a 30″x 40″ canvas. Click the image above to see it larger. Sorry the photo sucks, hopefully I can take a better one when I get it back at the end of the show, May 24th. You can go see it whenever you like at Meltdown Comics until then!

Can’t wait to do more now, definitely need to experiment with the materials a little more too. Not my best, but just glad I got a large piece done finally. And used that damn blank canvas that’s been sitting around for more than 5 years!

SMS lurv

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Sad… but true? I can relate to a few things in this fairly amusing flash animation. Just a few, mostly the texting game itself. Interesting how new tech changes social interaction and rules. Have a soul please, too. Don’t do break ups over the phone. That’s some weak ass shit. Especially through a text. Yeesh. (Thanks Erica!)

zombie puppets = fun footwork

Microsoft’s Zune has been pumping out some great work the past few years, and their latest doesn’t disappoint.  With the combined might of powerhouse designer teams 72andSunny and Three Legged Legs have pumped out a sick little piece with great zombie puppets, a great song by Chromeo, and plain old funky freaky fun.  Feck it fout fere.  They even have a great and extensive behind-the-scenes and step by step production of the piece just below the video…

hulk? g.i. joe? the watchmen? oki heaven…

Monday, March 24th, 2008

The gods must be listening. Comic books are all the rage in Hollywood, and that suits me just fine. Sure, sometimes the fanboys (including me) get furious and the studios’/directors’ renditions and takes, but you know what? Eff it. Seeing these characters come to life in any shape or form is always damn exciting. Stories be damned. And besides, these days, it seems like everyone can get a second take. Take the Hulk movies, for instance. The Ang Lee version was “enh.” The new one? Seems a bit more action packed. Bring it on. Check the trailer out after the jump, plus a G.I. Joe pic and Watchmen photos! (via I Watch This)

mesmerizing venus

Watch this venus fly trap grow. We’ve all seen them catch flies. Pretty interesting to see the mouth split open as it grows. Like a mean green bean.

What really impresses me more (as an animation nerd) is the contraption the videographer built to get those camera moves in. His site’s in German, but you can see what shooting such a simple one minute video required here.
